I thought I'd better try running in the boots that I now have to wear for the FD. I had wanted to keep my relatively expensive 'good' boots for general hill walking, but the run across Pen-y-fan with Strider last month totally destroyed my old parade boots. So today I did the Troserch X roads route and then the burning calfs hill route in my 'good' boots. The route is 7.2 miles in length with an elevation gain of 854ft. My rucksack was 47LB without my 2 litres of water. I felt that the going was tough today and only did Burning Calfs once, even though I had intended to do it twice. I finished the run in 1 hour 46 minutes. Last time I did this route with Strider we finished in 1 hour 44 minutes. On a plus note I did manage to run up the steps that form part of a hill on the X Roads route, then after a few seconds where I thought I was going to cough a lung up, I ran about a quarter of the hill.... Still can't run up Burning Calfs Hill though.

I plan to do this race with my brother 'Strider' (Link to his blog above) on 20th July 2013, mainly to see if at 44 I still have the 'stones' to be able to do it.
