The Snugpak underquilt when fully compressed packs down to a ball around 20cm in diameter. Packing it into the stuffsack is easy as the stuff sack is a good size, the compression straps go all the way around to save pulling on the sack and ripping it. the whole underquilt including suspension shockcord and stuffsack (I have cut some of the shockcord off) weighs 1240g.
After the initial messing around to find the best way to hang the underquilt I think we have finally got it set up the best we can. The underquild DOES make the hammock more comfortable and it is warm, but during a recent trip with 'Strider' we both got cold at the same time, when the temperature dropped to 2 degrees Celsius. This seems to be the temperature limit of these particular underquilts. Personally I am thinking of using a foil survival blanket in conjunction with the underquilt when I know the temperature will be below freezing. This will hardly add any weight or volume to my pack.
