Immediately after receiving this hammock I cut off the suspension cord and replaced it with whoopie slings. There is nothing wrong with the supplied cord it's just that I find it such a faff to untie and re-tie knots to adjust the hang, and whoopie slings make it so easy! I tied a knot in the original cord, which I left in place as it runs through the hammock ends about 4 inches away from the hammock, then I cut the cord relatively close to the knot. I used a karabiner to attach the whoopie slings to the small loop created with the cord. I could have attached the whoopie slings directly to the loop, but I have many uses for the karabiners. Hanging the hammock is easy, however inserting the spreader bars for the bug-net is fiddly and with cold hands, virtually impossible.
The hammock needs a ridgeline to suspend the bug-net from. This is ok as I always run the ridgeline for the tarp anyway. I use a clip each end with a prussic knot on the ridgeline to adjust the tension of the bug-net. If I need the tarp pulled across unfortunately these have to be either moved out of the way or removed before the tarp can be pulled across the ridgeline.
The design of the hammock does not allow for an internal ridgeline organiser, which I find very useful. I tend to keep my head-torch, phone, a snack and camera in the ridgeline organiser and I also clip my waterbottle and camcorder to the ridgeline. Unfortunately a ridgeline cannot realistically be used within this hammock as it creates too much sag in the bug-net. There are pockets on the Frontine Hammock but I have found that things always fall out of them as the closure is just a small velcro tab.
I particularly like the double layer, which gives the option of using a standard camping inflatable mat to stay warm. I have never used it with a mat as I use the snugpak underquilt which I bought from DD.
At £49 direct from DD I think this is a great hammock giving good value for money. Perfect for people just starting their hammock adventure, as they can use their existing camping kit and the only additional kit they need to purchase is a tarp and some paracord.
